Huge immigrant visa backlogs challenge President Biden’s immigration policy goals. Even though he has already halted and reversed some of his predecessor’s anti-immigration policies, the consequences of those restrictive measures remain and have contributed to a massive backlog of nearly 2.6 million qualified immigrant visa applications. Backlogs in some of these categories are 50 to 100 times higher than they were at the beginning of the Trump administration.
Perry & Alznauer, P.C. is continuously monitoring policy & law changes. If you or anyone you know has an issue related to any of the situations stated below, we urge you to contact our office to help you explore options regarding your immigration goals in the United States:
- Family-based and employment-based visa applications which are backlogged due to plummeting visa interview availability caused anti-immigration policies.
- Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
- H1B and Other Worker Visas
- Travel Bans and Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) Program (Green Card Lottery)
- Temporary Protected Status (TPS) – that grants temporary legal status to people from designated countries struck by conflict, disaster, and other extraordinary circumstances (especially people from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan). Biden is permitting new applications for this program.
The Biden Administration has taken numerous initial steps towards ameliorating the impact of the Trump administration policies. Much more remains to be done. It is more important than ever to seek help from a qualified immigration attorney about your specific situation. You should consult an immigration attorney if you are uncertain about your eligibility for a green card or other immigration benefit. Do not be misled by “notarios” or other consultants promising immediate results or guarantees. Please call or e-mail our office to schedule a consultation.
